SEA's first birthday party

On 4 September 2008, SEA celebrated one year of advocacy in the Bega Valley Shire. Representatives from DADHC, Council, Housing NSW, Family Support, Workability, Tulgeen Disability Services, Respite Care Bega Valley and members of South East Advocacy's Steering Committee were all there.

On this day, a DVD of Community Voices 'messages' and 'stories' was played to help service providers understand a little bit more about what it's like for people with disability and their carers. Nicole Butterworth delivered a short speech about her experiences as a young woman with cerebral palsy and ADHD and Cara Hay performed a song called 'Cerebral Palsy Rocks this World'. SEA Celebrated the International Women’s Day

SEA joined the International Women’s Day Celebrations on March 6 at the Bega Town Hall Supper Room by holding a stall and sharing information with everyone on the day.

The Women Resource Centre at Bega organised the event and it was full of entertainment including the Women Resource Centre Drop-in Group, a local poet read some personal poetry, Women Tathra Choir (from the nearby town of Tathra) and the kids had a lot of fun with some face painting.

Bega Local Council also organised activities on March 12 to celebrate the International Women’s Day.

 

Bollywood Dance

On September 22, 2007, Danielle Neves attended the Respite Care Bega Valley Disco to meet and greet people with disability in the area. The theme was Bollywood.

Create, Don't Wait Independent Living Forum

Election Day 2007 was also an opportunity for families in the Bega Valley Shire to explore options for young adults with disability to live independently. Danielle Neves, from SEA, was part of the forum. Danielle discussed how advocacy might play a part in independent living.
