About SEA Just over twelve months ago, The South East Advocacy (SEA) was formed with the mission of establishing an independent advocacy service for Southern NSW, which includes Bega Valley, Eurobodalla and Cooma areas. SEA is made up of people with disability, their families and carers from the Southern region. To read more about SEA click on the link below: http://bega.yourguide.com.au/ After lobbying federal and state governments and collaboration with the Multicultural Disability Advocacy Association of NSW, funding was received to run SEA until June 2008, with additional funding being made available by MDAA to run the service until 2009. ![]() Interview with Steve Bragg Steve Bragg is '49 going on 50'. Steve was born in Liverpool Hospital in Sydney and grew up in Balmain. Steve has a mild intellectual disability. He has lived in Bega for a few years. He has been on several committees to raise awareness of disability issues. He served on the Workability Committee, as a client rep. He was also on the Access and Equity Committee, a group, which provided Council with advice on access issues experienced by people with disability in the Bega community. Steve in on the SEA Steering Committee. He became interested in advocacy after attending an advocacy workshop. In describing the role of advocacy in the Bega Valley Shire, he says 'it is not always difficult to speak up in Bega, but sometimes it can be hard When you're stressed out, it's good to have someone to talk to sometimes it's hard to know all the different services out there.' |
