In 2003- 2004 MDAA undertook the 'What is disability? Project' which involved working with ten different ethnic communities to develop and document the different communities understanding of disability related issues and to communicate to those communities the way disability is understood in Australia.

The result of this project are 10 booklets in 10 community languages called "Opening Doors'. Each booklet is unique to the specific community and each booklet is designed to speak to and raise the issue of disability within the community.

NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service

A state-wide service of the NSW Health Department, it hosts a website containing over 400 publications on general health topics in around 50 different languages. It also conducts health research, campaigns, translations and offers resource/translation guidelines.

EthnoMed

A website containing medical and cultural information on immigrant and refugee groups. It contains information specific to groups in the Seattle area, but much of the cultural and health information is of interest and applicable in other geographic areas. Ethnic groups included to this date are the Amharic, Cambodian, Chinese, Eritrean, Hispanic, Oromo, Somali, Tigrean, and Vietnamese.

Brain Injury

The Brain Injury Association of NSW has several free publications available that can help you understand brain injury and its effects on people's lives.

Some can be downloaded from this website, and all of them can be mailed out. General Information on Brain Injury in other languages is available in Arabic, Chinese, Croatian, Greek, Italian, Macedonian, Polish and Vietnamese.
