Documentary: 'The Art of Disability'

The 48-minute film celebrates life, the power of love and the film crew headed by Bonnie Klein -- a woman with a vast work who is considered an important Canadian filmmaker.

The documentary film tells five different stories of an equal number of disabled people, showing their capability to overcome many obstacles and be useful to society.

In 1987, at the age of 46, Bonnie Klein had a brain hemorrhage resulting from a congenital malformation. From a young age she worked as a freelance filmmaker and her work has earned her several prizes.

Klein praised the work of Cuban experts at CIREN, a health institution, which develops several research programs that contribute to increasing knowledge and introducing new technologies in the field of neurology.

Founded in 1989, the Havana center develops several therapeutic programs, successfully treating thousands of patients from around the world.

During her stay in Cuba, the Canadian filmmaker will visit the Latin American School of Medicine, several schools for disabled people and will exchange with members of the Cuban children's theater company La Colmenita. She has also plans to present her documentary film in the Cuban TV program 'Pasaje a lo Desconocido'.
