Disability growth rate in Azerbaijan has halted (Baku, Fineko/abc.az, March 2011) The Ministry of Labour & Social Protection of Azerbaijan has held a meeting dedicated to the current situation and future plans in the area of social & medical examination and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities. Ministry’s press service reports that at the meeting labour minister Fizuli Alakbarov informed of the opening of new health care facilities in different regions of the country, improvement of health care services, decline in disability rate to zero due to better control of service of socio-medical examination, and increase of rates of full rehabilitation of disabled persons up to 5.9%. On this basis, the minister stressed the necessity to toughen measures aimed at improving rehabilitation indicators of the socio-medical expert committee. The minister also ordered creation of mobile examination teams to ensure domiciliary examination of disabled persons, secondment of officials of the National Socio-Medical Expert Centre and the Baku Centre for Prosthetic & Orthopedic Rehabilitation and responsible persons of the Ministry to regions to investigate citizens’ complaints on site, and creation of conditions to attract public organizations to this work, and acceleration of works on creation of single database of these disabled persons. Alakbarov also ordered to prepare proposals to strengthen material and technical base of rehabilitation services by improving them in line with modern trends. The minister also warned of taking tough measures against social workers dealing with bribery and illegal issue of disability confirming document. Source: http://abc.az/eng/ From beginning of year 3,775 people go on disability pension in Azerbaijan (Baku, Fineko, 01.09.10. abc.az) Till the end of the year it is expected that the number of pensioners will increase by 17-18,000 people, as the result of which, their total quantity will reach to 1.308 million of people. Today, chairman of the Azerbaijani State Social Protection Fund (ASSPF) Salim Muslimov said at a news conference, by the beginning of next year the number of pensioners will almost equate to the level at the beginning of 2010. “During the first half of this year, their number decreased by 17,300 people, that is, from 1.308 million to 1.29 million of people. The number of pensioners by age also fell by 20,095 people. However, since the beginning of the second half, their number started to grow, as men at the age of 62.5 years and women at the age of 57.5 years, began to reach retirement,” S. Muslimov said. He also said that during the reporting period, the quantity of pensioners, receiving disability pensions, grew by 3,775 people and reached 315,625 people.
