Disability Sports: José Sayovo at Championship in Spain

(Luanda, 05.05.08) Angolan runner José Sayovo will participate on May 28 in an international competition in the city of Barcelona, Spain, under the invitation of Spanish Paralympics Committee, ANGOP learnt.

According to the secretary general of the Angolan Paralympics Committee, the sprinter will compete in the 100, 200 and 400 metre races, whose guide is still to be selected, will travel with the national coach, José Manuel, after competing in the National Athletics Championship scheduled for May 24 and 25, in the Angolan capital, Luanda.

José Sayovo`s participation in the Spanish competition is part of his preparation for African Championship in Tunisia and for the Paralympic Games of China, set for June and September 2008, respectively.

After the Barcelona competition, the athlete will join the national squad that is training in Portugal. Besides Sayovo, the team is made up of other athletes such as Evalina Alexandre (silver medallist at the 2007 Pan-African Games of Tunis) and Francisco Miguel (bronze medallist).

José Sayovo became world champion in 100, 200 and 400 metres in the Paralympic Games of Greece, in 2004.
