NESB and Disability Links

National Ethnic Disability Alliance
www.neda.org.au is the national consumer-based peak body for people from a non-English speaking background (NESB) with disability, their families and carers. The overarching aim of NEDA is to advocate at a federal level, for the rights and interests of people from a NESB with disability, their families and cares.

Ethnic Disability Advocacy Centre
The Western Australian Ethnic Disability Advocacy Centre (EDAC) was established in 1995 to advocate for and empower people with a disability from non-English speaking backgrounds. EDAC aims to safeguard the rights of ethnic people with disabilities and their families.

Action on Disability within Ethnic Communities is a Victorian community based organisation which represents the rights and needs of people of non-English speaking background with a disability and their carers. ADEC provides advocacy, information, referral, education, training and consultancy.

Federation of Ethnic Communities Councils of Australia
One of the objectives of this national body is to promote, foster and improve Australia's multicultural society by recognising its diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Ethnic Communities Council of NSW
This NSW peak agency is about the promotion of joint action and co-operation between ethnic communities on issues of common concern.

NSW Disability Advocacy Organisations

Ability Incorporated
is located in Ballina, a federally funded service providing training and support and the objective to deliver programs that meet the individual needs of people with disabilities, their families and carers.

Brain Injury Association of NSW
works to make the community and the government aware of the needs and issues affecting people who have an acquired brain injury. Their purpose is to represent and support people with an acquired brain injury so that they can participate equally in the community.

Disability Advocacy Service Hunter
believes that people with a disability should have the same rights as other citizens. We aim to ensure that people with a disability obtain these rights in practice by advocating with and for them.

Disability Complaints Service
is a free service to help people with disability living in New South Wales who wish to make a complaint about their rights being infringed. DCS assists individuals to have their complaints heard and acted on, provides information about the rights of people with disability, liaises with other complaints services and other types of services and assists people to access whatever support is needed to have their complaints heard.

Family Advocacy
aims to empower families in which there is a child or adult with a developmental disability to achieve great things!

Carers NSW
supports and is the leading voice for carers in NSW. Carers NSW vision is for a society that values and supports family members and friends who provide care for people with ongoing needs for assistance.

Mental Health Coordinating Council
has as its primary purpose the co-ordination of the provision of non-government mental health care services to disadvantaged and marginalised people who suffer psychiatric disability in New South Wales including treatment, interventionist and developmental services in accordance with the best standards of professional excellence.

NSW Council for Intellectual Disability
is the peak organisation in NSW representing the rights and interests of people with intellectual disability.

Physical Disability Council of NSW
provides a state-wide voice for people with a physical disability. We aim to secure equal rights for people with disability. We participate in networks to build better links between people with a physical disability, their families and organisations. Whenever there are discussions involving service providers, decision makers in government, the communities in which we live or in business, we believe there should be "nothing about us without us."

Positive Life NSW
is a non-profit community organisation representing the interests of people living with HIV/AIDS in New South Wales.

This international disability site is available in 3 languages.

The UN Refugee Agency
Today, UNHCR is one of the world's principal humanitarian agencies, its staff of more than 5,000 personnel helping 19.8 million people in more than 120 countries. During its half century of work, the agency has provided assistance to at least 50 million people, earning two Nobel Peace Prizes in 1954 and 1981.

NSW Council of Social Services
is the peak body for the social and community services sector in New South Wales.

Refugee Council of Australia
is a non-profit peak organisation. It provides information on and advocacy for refugees and humanitarian entrants in Australia on behalf of its 90 organisational members and many individual members. It is not a part of the Australian Government.
