Advocacy Manager (Closing date 30.05.12)

The Multicultural Disability Advocacy Association of NSW is a statewide advocacy organisation representing people from non-English speaking backgrounds (NESB) with disability. The aim of MDAA is to promote, protect and secure the rights and interests of people from NESB with disability, their families and carers in NSW.

After a recent restructure and relocation, an exciting opportunity exists for a motivated and skilled Advocacy Manager with a passion for social justice to lead our Individual Advocacy team.

The successful applicant will be based at our Granville Head and will oversee regional offices. The position is Permanent Full-Time (37.5 hrs/week) and the salary level SACS Grade 6.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated ability to articulate and inspire people about NESB disability and human rights within a social model
  • Strong knowledge of disability/human rights sector
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and manage teams; including strong verbal communication, sound HR knowledge, coaching/ feedback skills and effective delegation skills
  • Experience within a community-based or membership driven organisation
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant area
  • Demonstrated abilities in strategic planning and demonstrated skills in strategy implementation
  • Strategic policy development experience
  • Demonstrated skills in managing budgets and preparing funding submissions
  • Relationship building/management/influencing skills
  • Negotiation skills
  • Stakeholder management skills
  • Sound written communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required within NSW
  • A Working With Children Check and a Police Check are a requirement.
