MDAA held an Election Forum with the Parramatta Candidates on 19 March 2007 in Harris Park, Sydney. In attendance were Tanya Gadiel (Australian Labor Party) and Tim Hendry (The Greens Party). Unfortunately, the Liberal candidate, gave his apologies due to prior engagement. The politicians spoke about their respective party's policies on disability and multiculturalism. Consumers raised issues on public transport accessibility in Western Sydney, to quote from one consumer. “it is far behind when compared to other city areas”. Issues regarding train stations; access to public buildings; bus and hospital services; TAFE and employment (eg. people with disability being unfairly treated) were also discussed. Both candidates expressed their interests to continue consultating with MDAA and people from a non English speaking background with disability to further develop their policies in disability and ethnic issues. The lunch was noodles (with meat and vegetarian), chicken and rice which attracted good comments. A total of 25 consumers and Committee members were present at this forum.
