Something new is happening in Coffs
Harbour. People with disability are organising a
conference for people with disability and family
members/friends.
In February a community meeting was
held in Coffs Harbour to gauge the level of interest
from people with disability and carers, with
Advocacy in
Action project support, in
holding a disability conference and what that would be
like.
Over twenty people with disability and
their carers turned up, thanks to a lot of promotion and
hard work from Raymond Munro and other interested
people. We were lucky that the designated room had
inter-connecting rooms as the interest and attendance
exceeded our expectations.
There
appeared to be great interest in running a conference with
an emphasis on education for the community and exchange of
information for both the community and people with
disability.
A date was set for 8th June 2004 at
the Services Club in Coffs.
Regular teleconferences will be held
leading up to the conference. People will also keep in
contact through email and telephone.
If you are a person with a disability
and are interested in being part of the organising of the
conference please call Ruth
on 1800 629 072 or email ruth.jacka@mdaa.org.au
