2004 - Kempsey

Services > Advocacy in Action > Advocacy in Action Events > 2004 'Belonging Conference'

On Monday 15th November 110 people with disability, family members/unpaid carers, service providers and government agencies came together in Kempsey to listen to the stories of people with disability about belonging.

Time was set aside for the community to come up with ideas about how to ensure that all community members become valued members of Kempsey and surrounding areas.

Because there was not enough time to discuss all ideas in great depth some people expressed an interest in staying involved with the Advocacy in Action project because they see this as one way that Kempsey could become a more inclusive community.

Some suggestions have been a working party on employment issues, another was following up accommodation options for people with a mental health problem.

"Making it happen: a community where everyone,
regardless of background or disability, feels welcome, included and supported."
