Griffith Workshop - December 2003In December Advocacy in Action went to Griffith in the Riverina to run a communication workshop and visit workers in a Business Enterprise.

Shu, our administrative assistant, came with us and assisted in the workshop and provided information to service providers. Shu wrote a report of her experience as this was the first time she had travelled to a rural area.

Griffith Workshop - December 2003Our visit to Griffith coincided with International Day for People with Disabilities. Every year 3rd December is recognised across the world as the day set aside to celebrate the achievements of people with disability. This year's theme was 'Connecting Communities', recognising that people with disability are an important part of, and contribute to, a diverse and rich community. People we met had limited information about the importance of the day and were enthusiastic about organising an event for next year.

We have also planned a series of presentations in Griffith by Shu to school students, service providers and people with disability, as well as a festival showcasing the achievements and talents of people with disability. These events are planned in April 2004.

If you would like to become involved contact Ruth Jacka.
