2003 Carers Week

Carers from non-English speaking backgrounds (NESB) had a great Carers' Week this year. With funding from the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care, MDAA organised events in Sydney and Newcastle.

Carers' Expo 2003

The Carers' Expo at Parramatta Heritage Centre was a great opportunity to discover what services, equipment and benefits are available to assist carers. The Expo also introduced carers to a range of alternative therapies to maintain their health, including Tai Chi, yoga, meditation and massage. The day was very popular and many interested carers from NESB attended.

Sydney Harbour Lunch Cruise

Carers from NESB came together to celebrate their valuable contributions in fine style over a delicious seafood smorgasbord on Sydney Harbour. All had a great day and enjoyed the break from their day to day routine.

Newcastle Carer's Education and Information Session

This event was well attended, with speakers from Migrant Health Unit, Centrelink and community and other service providers. A great deal of networking took place during the breaks, which were well catered for by Club Nova. Many new friendships were made and a great laughter took place particularly during Shirley Lewellyn presentation, when she became most entertaining and dynamic.

"Making it happen: a community where everyone,
regardless of background or disability, feels welcome, included and supported."
